Los Angeles Goes To Dreamland with ZHU

ZHU

October 10, 2021

The Greek Theatre – Los Angeles, CA

An ominous haze of smoke flew over the crowd at the Greek Theater as ZHU appeared for his first of two completely sold out shows in Los Angeles . As dark orange lights flickered, his silhouette towered over the crowd while he stood atop of his DJ booth. The venue was packed to the brim, with not a single empty seat in sight.

As the crowd cheered in anticipation, ZHU kicked off his nearly 2-hour set with Good Life and quickly transitioned to the crowd favorite, In The Morning. The lights went dark and as soon as they shone again, a three-piece band featuring guitar, drums and a saxophone appeared on stage. The band accompanied ZHU for the remainder of his set, adding more depth to the performance.

ZHU treated the crowd to favorites, Working For It, Faded, Cocaine Model and did a rendition of …Baby One More Time by Britney Spears to the instrumental of Risky Business, which then transitioned into Radiohead’s Creep. He also seamlessly transitioned from Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir into Dreams.

The night was filled with a variety of hits, from classics to a few from his latest album Dreamland 2021. While the overall stage set-up was rather simple for a DJ, it was enough. Rather than overemphasizing it with graphics throughout, the simplicity in the light show matched the mysterious, veiled DJ who wore large shades & a trench coat. The live band element, paired with ZHU’s distinct voice quickly made it clear why he has such die hard fans and so many sold out shows.
