Motor Sister is a Los Angeles-based rock band that was formed after guitarist Scott Ian united the group for his fiftieth birthday. The band consists of: guitarist/singer Jim Wilson (Mother Superior), guitarist Scott Ian (Anthrax), Scott Ian’s wife Pearl Aday, bassist Joey Vera (Armored Saint/Fates Warning), and drummer John Tempesta (White Zombie/Testament). On March 10, 2015 the band released their debut album titled Ride to critical acclaim. The songs on the album are Mother Superior songs covered by this band’s lineup. As a special Christmas set, the band performed an intimate set at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub in Los Angeles, California.

Motor Sister came out at 9pm to give the crowd a taste of good old-fashioned rock and roll. Their setlist consisted of songs from their new album so if fans in the venue weren’t already familiar with it, now would be their chance to get a taste of it. Being that they’re a rock band, it was easy to tell where their sound got the inspiration from. Traces of Aerosmith, KISS, AC/DC, and UFO could be heard. Ian could be seen rockin’ out on his guitar while his wife Aday would be rockin’ out too while playing the tambourine and also performing backing vocals. Wilson would display his impressive rock vocals and still be working his guitar like no other. The songs they played all carried different elements of rock. A-Hole is one of the most rock tunes played that night and the crowd would head bang and cheer while drinking their beer. Beg Borrow Steal goes back to the classic rock style of Mother Superior and fans of rock and roll would surely enjoy this tune. Then there’s songs like This Song Reminds Me of You that has a bluesy feel to it, but still sounds like rock. Wilson made a remark how guys get all the rock songs so this next song was for the ladies. The song played was the ballad Fool Around and was a nice break from all the rocking songs the band had been playing. Get That Girl gives Tempesta a chance to show of his drumming chops in the intro and drum in classic rock style even when he’s primarily played in metal bands. Sadly their approximately 50 minute set eventually had to come to an end and fans were asking for an encore. Motor Sister has been playing small gigs lately, but will occasionally play larger gigs like Motorhead‘s Motorboat cruise and opening for Steel Panther. If you’re a fan of Mother Superior, classic rock, and blues music, you should check out Motor Sister and see them live as they are a fun band to raise your horns to.
