iHeartRadio Theater- Los Angeles, CA

After much anticipation, the third studio album for Sixx A.M. was finally released on October 7, 2014. To celebrate the release of the band’s new album, Modern Vintage, they performed an intimate show at the iHeartRadio studios in Los Angeles, CA, open only to fans that could win their way in. It was the band’s first show in years, so there was a lot of excitement. Leading up to the event, the band and the ‘venue’, were constantly posting different opportunities and ways for fans to win their way in, including commenting on why you deserve to go, on the band’s Facebook page.

The day had finally come and although the invite said there would be no lining up allowed prior to 5pm, fans got to the theater as early as 12pm. The fans trickled in slowly and excitedly picked up the passes that they had won to attend the show. Some lucky fans even won a meet and greet with the band which allowed them to watch the band soundcheck, talk to the band and take photos with the band. The results included shaken up fans, crying tears of joy.

Sixx AM-20After everyone had gotten their designated wristbands, the eager fans were warned by security that the doors would open up and that no one was allowed the run. As doors opened, fans did the fastest type of walking imagine to get to the front of the stage. It was very soon when the band was introduced and they came out, all smiling. They started their 8 song set with the first of the album, Let’s Go which had everyone signing along, even though the album had just been released. Following Let’s Go, the band performed Stars, another track from the new album. Not only was the trio doing great things, but drummer Jeff Fabb was contributing a huge part and added a great element of real drums that the other two albums didn’t have. Additionally, the band had 2 female backup singers who did a fabulous job, complementing the band as they performed.

There was a quick break following the first two songs and the band members were interviewed, getting fans ready for a big announcement. The night continued with Gotta Get It Right and followed another interview and the announcement of the band’s first ever headlining tour! The room erupted in cheers. The band gave fans a few details including that the tour would be with Apoctalyptica and would last 3 weeks in April of 2015. The band went back to performing songs, the fans more excited than ever. Jame’s Michael slowed it down and performed Drive on piano and then went into the song that got them started, Life is Beautiful. The piano was rolled back out for Before It’s Over, which was a different musical rendition of how it is on the album, and that song was dedicated to lead singer, James Michael’s good friend and manager of 16 years who had recently passed away.

The night ended with This is Gonna Hurt and Lies of The Beautiful People which once again had everyone signing and dancing along to. Although the show was over, fans were excited to meet Sixx A.M. the following night, at their CD signing.
