The Lovesick Tour Hits The Pacific Northwest

Jacob Whitesides & Shane Harper
June 14, 2016
The Crocodile -Seattle, WA

Forecasted thunderstorms and rain didn’t stop fans from lining up as early as 2am to see Jacob Whitesides and Shane Harper perform at The Crocodile in Seattle’s Belltown district. A bunch of cool bands ranging from Nirvana to Death Cab For Cutie have played shows at this cozy little venue and it was now time for Whitesides and Harper to leave their mark on the stage. While waiting in line fans were surprisingly very friendly & outgoing and handing out doughnuts and handing out a fan projects to everyone in line. By the time doors opened the line was around the block filled with enthusiastic teenage girls and their not so enthusiastic parents.

Opening the night was Shane Harper. You might recognize him from his role as Spencer on Good Luck Charlie or God’s Not Dead or one of the various TV shows he’s appeared on over the years. Harper is a man of many talents though, as he can sing, song write, and dance on top of act. Harper has been releasing music since 2010 and has a few singles. When Harper and his guitarist Cooper Green came out the crowd became enthusiastic. Throughout the show they played hits songs such as One Step Jacob Whitesides (7)Closer & Rocketship from his self titled album. He also performed his newest single Like I Did as well as other songs off his recent EP Like I Did. Harper took time to connect with fans at the show and even fans not at the show saying hey to fans on facetime who couldn’t make it out to the show. For some reason they were given a longer set to perform in Seattle so Harper played a few songs he hadn’t performed live yet. The crowd seemed to really love Shane Harper. Harper was one of the best openers I had seen and I’m surprised he wasn’t the headlining act as he was equally as good.

Closing the night was Internet sensation Jacob Whitesides. The musician got his start on YouTube winning over fans by doing covers of a variety of artist ranging from Paramore to One Direction. Whitesides has quite the impressive following on social media (2 million Twitter followers, 1.4 million Instagram followers, 1.6 million Facebook likes). At the age of only 18 he has already had a chart topping album and has been selling out shows internationally. As Whitesides’ live band came out and started to play Rumors, ear piercing screams emitted from hundreds of fans. He played his newest single Lovesick next and fans began to sing along at the top of their lungs, leaving Whitesides with the biggest smile. Throughout his entire set fans were singing along and dancing even when he covered songs like The Weeknd’s Can’t Feel My Face which gave people such as parents who didn’t know his songs the opportunity to sing along. During one of his songs Rules Of Beautiful the fans surprised him with a fan project they had been working on for months in advance. Everyone in the crowd held heart shaped signs that said “We Break The Rules Of Beautiful”. Whitesides mentioned that this would be a show he wouldn’t forget and was one his favorites ever (although he probably says that in every city, it still made all the fans really happy when he mentioned this) . He closed the night with an encore and played a crowd favorite Secrets.  If you love soft pop and musicians that really connect with their fans Jacob Whitesides & Shane Harper are definitely the guys to see. These guys are some of the better upcoming artist in the industry right now. If the show isn’t sold out in your city I would definitely recommend making it out to show.
