Phoenix Applauds Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s 10th Anniversary Tour

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
June 9, 2015
Crescent Ballroom- Phoenix, AZ

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, a four-piece indie rock band from Philly, first emerged in 2005 with their debut self-titled album. Over the past ten years the band has released four full length albums and recently embarked on their 10th anniversary tour. This tour celebrates the first self-titled album by offering fans the unique concert experience of hearing the album performed live cover to cover. Opening for CYHSY were Teen Men, an experimental indie rock band. Teen Men appealed to the senses by not only performing excellent synth-based/catchy guitar tunes but also a large screen projecting images could be seen as their backdrop. The band was extremely playful and interacted with the visuals on the screen throughout their performance. After being mesmerized by this talented opener, the crowd poured into the venue for CYHSY.

CYHSY2Lead singer, Alec Ounsworth arrived onstage with megaphone in-hand to kick off the first song on the album Clap Your Hands! The crowd could be seen singing along with Ounsworth throughout the set which included fan favorites The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth and Details of the War. Ounsworth switched between guitar and harmonica throughout the set, and even made an appearance on a tiny piano for the intro to Sunshine and Clouds (And Everything Proud). All members of the band got into the performance and could be seen dancing around on stage throughout, especially Matt Wong (bassist). Ounsworth spoke with the audience from time to time and had the fans laughing when he did. In addition to playing the full length debut album, the band ventured into some of their other albums as well, ending with a highly energetic version of Satan Said Dance which got the crowd moshing. After the show, the band stuck around to talk with devoted fans as the venue slowly cleared out. Although Clap Your Hands Say Yeah has been around for ten years and has not been actively touring, they put on an energetic and fun show which I highly recommend for fans of CYHSY.
