April 23, 2013 marked the end of the 2013 Revival Tour which featured Chuck Ragan, Dave Hause, Toh Kay, Jay Malinkowski, Tim McIllrath, Jenny O., Rocky and more and was held at The El Rey Theater in Los Angeles, CA. We photographed them on the 23 in Los Angeles and reviewed them on the 22 in Santa Ana!
The Revival Tour is a one of a kind experience. This year the likes of Chuck Ragen of Hot Water Music, Tim Mcllrath of Rise Against, and tons of other iconic artists joined together for an acoustic tour. On April, 23, 2013 at the observatory the tour was coming to a close. With one night left everyone was pulling out all the stops to make sure it was as memorable as possible, even Johnny Two Bags of Social Distortion made an appearance. Just knowing what these bands sound like at a usual show won’t do this tour justice. As apposed to normal concerts, the night wasn’t divided between acts. The night started and ended with everyone on stage. Each artist then played a short solo set and was joined by the next performer for their last song. These duets brought together the best of both words. They all had a country soul with a Rock and Roll Feel.
Few rock artists can bring a room together and keep the energy up without loud guitars and a full band to back them up, but this show was put together in such a way that even if you were in the back of the room, you could feel the energy from everyone. Most artists played original material and some covers to spice up the evening. This assortment of fantastic artists proves that auto tune isn’t the only way to sound amazing in the music industry.
