Matt and Kim-aka Matt Johnson (vocals/keyboard) and Kim Schifino (drums)—hit the ground running, with their single “Get It” landing at #1 on the Alt-18, the top requested songs on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation.
Leading up to the release of New Glow, the New York pair unveiled four songs via lyric videos as part of their weekly #MandKTuesday, allowing listeners to get close to the music well in advance of its street date. The revealed songs included “Can You Blame Me,” “Hoodie On,” “Hey Now,” and “Get It.” The videos cumulatively amassed over 2 million YouTube/VEVO views-and-counting as well as significantly stoking excitement for the full-length.
“I See Ya”
“Not Alone”
New Glow is comprised of ten bright and bold anthems that ping-pong back and forth between hand-clapped propelled dance floor shakers and sweetly pensive pop. It’s everything you’d expect from Matt and Kim.
Spin wrote “New Glow contains a little bit of everything they’re known for, mixing crisp, piano-heavy tunes in the style of “Daylight” (the standout song from their DIY sophomore album, 2009’s Grand), with wonky, hip-hop inspired beats more akin to “Cameras,” from their third album, 2010’s Sidewalks.” Rolling Stone affirmed, “The sound is perfect for festival main stages.”
The story of Matt and Kim begins back at the Pratt Institute where they first met and congregated over a unique and undeniable aural vision. Their diligence and dedication to delivering music that’s both dance-worthy and provocative continues to pay off. Over the course of their first four albums, the clip for “Lessons Learned” earned an MTV Video Music Award for “Breakthrough Video,” while “Daylight” achieved gold status. Selling out shows everywhere, they’re a favorite at leading festivals globally from Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Coachella, Firefly, and Summerfest to Big Day Out, Fuji, V, Pukkelpop, and Ultra.
