Whisky A Go-Go- Los Angeles, CA
As the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles was out partying for Cinco De Mayo, 7 bands, as part of Ill Nino’s 40 city tour were performing at the world famous Whisky A Go Go. After 6 bands and many alcoholic beverages, it was finally time for Bobaflex, a Heavy Metal band from West Virginia.
The band kicked off their short set with Start a War and because the set was so short, it seemed like the band was able to play most of their hits, which made for an enjoyable performance. They continued with Mama (Don’t Take My Drugs Away) with lead vocalist, Shaun McCoy commanding the stage and interacting with the audience by getting up close and personal with them. McCoy had one more song of the night to sing, being Glad You’re Dead and then he switched places with his brother and guitarist and fellow lead singer, Marty McCoy who finished the night off with the singing portion of the set.
Marty kept the energy high by starting his portion of the set with Never Coming Back which had the crowd moving with drummer, Tommy Johnson’s thunderous double bass kicks that shook the room. Smoke cannons would constantly shoot into the air, adding to the visual affect of their performance. They continued with Dry which was followed by their most recent single A Spider in the Dark from their 2015 album, Anything That Moves which was released in July of 2015. The set closer was none other than the hard hitting Bury Me With My Guns which had the entire venue moving and singing along to Marty.
Bobaflex definitely doesn’t get the recognition that they deserve. From hearing their music online, you can’t help but to head bang along, to seeing an impeccable performance live, this band has it all. Be sure to check out Bobaflex on their upcoming tour with Ill Nino, coming to a city near you.
