BB&T Pavilion- Camden, NJ
Camden, NJ; it was a pretty hot Friday night for fans in the mood for a good classic rock concert taking place at BB&T Pavilion here in Camden NJ. Many fans who ranged from ages early teens and to a bit older than 65 piled into the pavilion to hear rockers Dave Mason, The Doobie Brothers and headlining band Journey take the stage and deliver their most famous hits from years ago.
Dave Mason, who is a singer-songwriter formerly from the band Traffic, warmed up the crowd by playing some favorites from his career, Only You Know and I Know and We Just Disagree. Not only did he play a couple of his original songs he also covered many Traffic songs such as, Feelin’ Alright and Rock and Roll Stew. Mason also covered Bob Dylan‘s All Along the Watchtower.
Next up on the bill was a band I think the majority of the crowd came for, The Doobie Brothers. The band opened the night up with an high energy song, Jesus Is Just Alright. On stage there were seven total band members, which included two originals, Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons. The Doobie Brothers put on such a 16 song crowd pleasing set which consisted of very well known songs such as Rockin’ Down the Highway, Takin’ It to the Streets and Long Train Runnin’. The band played an two song encore, ending with Listen to the Music.
Finally! After two great sets, Journey took the stage. This band is phenomenal to see live. They played hits after hits including some older songs such as Any Way You Want It, throughout their set. The band slowed the show down a bit as they played Faithfully, a song they dedicated to our special forces. Before ending the night, drummer, Steve Smith gave the fans an wicked drum solo followed by a wicked guitar solo by lead guitarist, Neal Schon before ending their set with the most well known iconic hit of theirs, Don’t Stop Believin’, which had every single fan up and out of their seat dancing and singing at the top of their lungs.
Journey ended their 16 song set list with an encore of Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’.
I must say vocalist, Arnel Pineda’s stage presence is definitely different then what I expected. Pineda was bouncing all over the stage and sprinting from one side of the stage to the other as he proved his ability to bring give off such powerful vocals as well as the energy needed for an great night in Camden NJ
