Deftones & Rise Against
June 14, 2017
MGM Grand National Harbor – Oxon Hill, MD
Deftones & Rise Against along with Thrice paid a visit to the MGM Grand National Harbor theatre and if you missed out on this show you definitely should be regretting it. Opening up the night was a band called Three Trapped Tigers. They only played a handful of songs before the crowd really started to pack in the GA floor.
Next up was Thrice. Being a well known band in this field for sometime now really paid off. For a band that’s opening up for two pretty decently known rock bands, there sure was a hell of a crowd out there already. Only having time to give the fans an eight song setlist, the band managed to get a majority of the crowd off their feet and ready for Rise Against to follow up next. During their time on stage, the band played a few songs such as Hurricane, Black Honey and ended their set with The Earth Will Shake.
Up next was Rise Against and despite not being very active between the time of their last tour and record, Rise Against is back at it again with a brand new record and one hell of a set! It’s like they never even took a “break”. In early June Rise Against released one of their best records yet, Wolves. A majority of their set consisted of new songs, old songs and a whole ton of moaning going on. Rise Against played a good handful of their older material such as Good Left Undone, Ready To Fall and Re Education. Not only did the band play fan favorite older songs, they played a fair amount of newer songs from their latest record such as Wolves, Welcome to the Breakdown and The Violence. From the reaction of the fans you can definitely tell Rise Against never disappoints. The band puts on a fantastic live show and there is no denying that.
Closing out the show was Deftones & I’m pretty sure I lost my hearing during their set. After a great set from Rise Against, Deftones definitely have a bit of competition. Opening up their set with Headup, the amount of energy in just the beginning of their set really proved that the fans were in for a great set from Deftones. Instantly the crowd went wild as they formed a circle pit. Throughout the night Deftones played a hefty fourteen song setlist featuring Back To School, Swerve City and My Own Summer. The interaction between vocalist, Chino Morenoo, and the fans was just amazing, as he stood along the barricade wining his heart out to the fans. By the end of the fourteen songs, including the “closing” song they played their fast paced song, Rocket Skates. Just when fans thought the night was coming to an end, the band came back out to perform an two song encore including, Bored (which the crowd most definitely wasn’t) and Teething.
Overall, all three bands lived up to their potential and most certainly didn’t disappoint a single fan in the room. If you were disappointed by this tour then you’re crazy. One of the best shows of the summer and summer touring season has yet to kick in!
