System of a Down frontman, Serj Tankian has had many different endeavors during the last couple of years; from touring with System of a Down, creating a solo Jazz album, writing a book, to creating separate solo records, Tankian has been known as a front man, composer, producer, author and now with his newest accomplishment, we can now call him a painter.
When Tankian does something, he doesn’t do it like everyone else, so his new art exhibit entitled Disarming Time, is nothing compared to a regular art exhibit. It combines technology, music and his paintings to create a unique, once in a lifetime experience for the viewer.
On November 14, 2013, friends and family got an exclusive peek at the gallery at the private reception. As people flocked inside the gallery, they were given a headset, and asked to download the app, Eye For Sound, created specifically for the art. Behind every painting was a soundtrack that Tankian created. Once the app was opened, people held up their phones which scanned the paining and gave multiple options, including listening to the soundtrack of the painting. Tankian was present at the gallery and was more than happy to answer everyones questions about the art, music and more.
Tankian’s Disarming Time gallery is open to the public from November 15-21 from 12pm-6pm at PROJECT Gallery (1553 N. Cahunega Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90028). For all the System of a Down fans and Tankian alike, The Project gallery brings a nostalgia considering that right across the street was where the first System of a Down record was created.
Tankian brings people out of their comfort zones, having his fans experiment just as he is. Who knows, maybe you System of a Down fans have a love for art that never got exposed; Tankian’s gallery is a great place to discover it so be sure to check it out if you haven’t already.
