ALTimate Rooftop Christmas Party

The first annual, 98.7FM ALTimate X-mas roof top party went off without a hitch on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the W Hotel in Hollywood, CA.

At around 6:30 the rooftop of the W Hotel was packed, feeling more like a Saturday night than a Monday! Waiters were roaming the area, offering different delicacies to the guests; Santa and his elves were there and ready to take photos with guests; candy and electronic cigarettes were being given out; the red carpet was being graced with musicians and actors alike and the real party hadn’t even started yet!

The first artist to grace the small stage was J Roddy Walston and The Business and was followed by MS MR. After each short performance, the crowd grew, as the radio DJ’s kept teasing the audience about a surprise performance. The Airborne Toxic Event, Alt-J, Awolnation, and Silversun Pickups performed next, each playing a short, acoustic, intimate set. Many of them made up their set list as they went along, but didn’t forget to include fan favorites. Following each bands performance, DJ’s kept the crowd entertained as the next act set up and gave out Dr. Dre Beats, Sony giftcards and more, all throughout the night.

After much teasing and taunting for a “legendary performance” at 10:25 it was finally unveiled. It was the one and only Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, who haven’t played in front of such a small group of people in many, many years. They performed a total of 8 songs including Cherry Bomb, Bad Reputation, and I Hate Myself For Loving You. It was just hit after hit and the fans loved every second of it. Following their performance was the last act of the night, the Grammy nominated band, The National who brought the perfect night to a close.
This exclusive event, only open to radio winners, and invitees made this night a once in a life time experience full of great music, giveaways, hors’ devours, and a photo-op with Santa himself. It felt as though ALTimate X-Mas has been going on for many years now, as there seemed to be no issues with anything and no first time mistakes. If this first year was so amazing, we can’t wait to see what they have in store for the following years, as it can only get bigger and better!
