Ozzfest Meets Knotfest Announcement

On April 25, 2016, the Ozzfest Facebook page posted that there would be a very special announcement coming soon. Fans speculated and hoped for the return of Ozzfest. Following the post, Ozzfest began posting throwback photos to past Ozzfest shows, only confirming fan speculations on the upcoming announcement. Then in May, Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath and Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour invited fans to join them at the Hollywood Palladium on May 12 for a special announcement. Rumors began spreading of the combination of both Ozzfest and Slipknot’s Knotfest.

On May 12, hundreds, if not thousands of fans were lined up outside, anxiously waiting to be let inside for the exclusive announcement. The ‘freaks’ entertained the crowd with fire spitting and juggling until noon, when a movie started playing. It featured years of footage from previous Ozzfest shows, highlighting bands like Slipknot, System of a Down, Primus, etc. and interviews with Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy Osbourne, fans and behind the scenes looks into the production of Ozzfest.

After an hour and a half of reminiscing about previous Ozzfest shows, the lights dimmed and Jose Mangin, the DJ from the Liquid Metal station on Sirius FM greeted the crowd. He introduced Sharon Osbourne who thanked the crowd and introduced Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Corey Taylor with Clown to the stage. She spoke about Knotfest and Ozzfest and finally confirmed the rumors of bringing the two festivals together and creating Ozzfest Meets Knotfest. Unsurprisingly the crowd exploded with cheers and once it eventually faded away, Mangin introduced members from some of the 33 bands that are performing the festival, including Scott Ian from Anthrax, David Draiman from Disturbed, Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society and more. After announcing the line up for the 2 day festival, Mangin took questions from the press and announced to the crowd that they would be the first ones able to purchase tickets for the show for only 40 dollars!

Ending the festivities for the day was Zakk Wylde and his Black Sabbath tribute band, Zakk Sabbath who performed for the crowd, and surprised the crowd with special guests Corey Taylor and David Draiman during two songs.
