Merriweather Post Pavilion- Columbia, MD
After having a very hot weekend, Monday night was an excellent day for an outdoor concert. There was a nice breeze for the folks on the lawn and just an overall great night to kick back and enjoy a show here at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
Opening up the night was a indie/pop duo from Brooklyn, Matt and Kim. Being this was my first time ever seeing them, their set was so energetic and very enjoyable. They were nothing but goofballs on stage, laughing and having the time of their lives doing what they love with their true musical talent. They did a good job at entertaining the crowd who jumped along to songs throughout their set. Drummer Kim climbed on her drums between songs and made bad jokes to vocalist/keyboardist, Matt.
In between songs of theirs they played snippets of cover songs such as House Of Pain’s Jump Around which seemed to get almost everyone off their feet. Matt and Kim are definitely a duo you should check out; They make the atmosphere enjoyable with their sense of humor and music.
Ellie Goulding finally hit the stage with an entourage of backup singers and dancers. Two golden curtains covered part of the stage where Goulding would stand behind during the Delirium intro as her dancers patiently awaited Goulding to take the stage. She opened with a newer song off her newest record called, Aftertaste. Goulding also played songs like Something In the Way You Move, and Burn as buff male dancers worked their way around Goulding at times. During a few songs into the set, Goulding went all acoustic on the crowd and played Devotion, which was just absolutely beautiful.
Goulding mostly played songs from her record Halcyon and most songs from her newest record, Delirium. She finished her lengthy set with some of her most popular songs to date such as On My Mind, and Love Me Like You Do. Not only did she play her songs she also covered two Calvin Harris songs such as Outside and I Need Your Love. Ellie is hands down a phenomenal artist to see live. The production is fantastic as is her powerful vocals. Make sure you catch her on her Delirium World Tour! Definitely a show not to miss!
