Suffocation and Kataklysm

Suffocation and Kataklysm along with a few other bands put together the Carnival of Death tour and this night of death metal was held at the legendary Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, California on October 21, 2014.
Kataklysm is a Canadian death metal band that has been around since 1991 and have 11 albums under their belt including releasing their newest album, Waiting For the End to Come last year. The lights turned off and the crowd cheered as Kataklysm made their way down the stairs and opened with Like Angels Weeping (The Dark) to which the crowd immediately responded by shoving each other and moshing. Kataklysm played hit after hit with precise sound to the album tracks and the crowd never stopped getting rowdy.
Suffocation is a veteran death metal band from New York that first formed in 1988. Fans at the Whisky A Go Go eagerly waited as they chanted, “Su-ffo-ca-tion! Su-ffo-ca-tion! Su-ffo-ca-tion!”. Finally the lights turned off and the crowd roared with excitement as Suffocation made their way down the stairs and into their perspective spots as they opened with Thrones of Blood and the fans immediately responded once again by shoving, moshing, and crowd surfing. The members of the band were an interesting bunch. Guitarist Terrance Hobbs is of African descent which you don’t see too often in metal bands. Bassist Derek Boyer had his long white hair that would fly around anytime he head banged and gave him a cool look. Vocalist Frank Mullen was absent due to work complications so instead Disgorge vocalist Ricky Myers filled in. Suffocation‘s music sounded vicious as both guitarists used their signature riffs and the drummer pounder away on the drums with quick precision. After their set, Suffocation stayed to throw guitar picks and drumsticks into the crowd and shake their hands. Suffocation and Kataklysm may play some of the most brutal death metal tunes, but they are really nice guys when you go up to them.
