House of Blues-Chicago, IL

Christina Perri has come a long way in a very short time.  Her debut song, Jar of Hearts exploded on the scene after being featured on the TV show, So You Think You Can Dance.  With two albums out, which include the just released HEAD or HEART album and 2 EP, Perri has proven she has lasting power and has become this era’s Alanis Morsette.

Opening the show was the talented Birdy, a 17 year old who comes from the UK, where she has had huge success and is ready to conquer the USA.  With a very minimal setup- keyboard, 1 standalone drum and guitar, she let her voice take center stage.  Her album, Fire Within, will be released sometime this year in the USA but has done well overseas. Playing a solid 30 minute set, which included a few songs off the new album, left the crowd wanting more, as a buzz worked around the venue for more info about Birdy.

Christina Perri House of Blues Chicago (12)    With just one opening act, Christina Perri came on stage at 8pm to play close to an 1 ½ hour of powerful, heart-wrenching, fun-loving, emotional songs that had the sold out venue singing along and cheering loudly after every song.  Opening with Trust, the playful Shot Me in the Heart and Run all of the new album Head or Heart.

Having been a fan of Christina’s brother, Nick Perri – guitar playing with Silvertide and Shindown, I have seen Christina rise and the amazing vocalist she has become.  There is a comfort level when hearing Perri sing, like a cozy old blanket on a cold night.  Throughout the show she shared little stories, giving almost a storytelling style to the night.

One of the surprises of the night came when she did a cover of Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines which had an interesting spin on it that has to be seen and heard.  Perri came out for an encore of Penguin, Jars of Hearts and the new single, I Don’t Wanna Break.

Perri will be touring till the end of May 2014, as well as going back out on the road for most of the year.
