Sasquatch Music Festival 2017 Pros & Cons

Sasquatch Music Festival 2017
May 26, 27, 28, 2017
The Gorge Amphitheater – George, WA

THE LINEUP:

PRO: Sasquatch! Music Festival’s lineup was very diverse this year. The lineup featured performances from artists such as Twenty One Pilots, Chance The Rapper, LCD Soundsystem, The Head & The Heart, Sir-Mix-A-Lot, and Kaytranada to name a few. The festival also had a few performances by comedians, we caught a glimpse of Fred Armisen’s performance and it was really cool! There were a few cancellations but thanks to those cancellations we got performances from LCD Soundsytem, Sir-Mix-a-Lot and Sam Lachow whom put on amazing sets.

CON: The lineup wasn’t as great as previous years. In fact this festival typically sells out every year but this year they had to start selling single day tickets. Cancellations also bummed out a bunch of fans, especially the fans who bought single day tickets for the day Frank Ocean was supposed to headline.

Frank Ocean: cancelled due to production delays beyond his control.

Mac Miller: cancelled his performance due to his girlfriend Ariana Grande needing emotional support after the horrific attack at her show in Manchester.

Catfish & The Bottlemen: cancelled last minute due to a sickness within the band.

Kaiydo: cancelled last minute due to a family emergency.

MAIN STAGE:

PRO: The festival’s main stage was located at the venues GORGEous amphitheater. There’s nothing like sitting on the huge grass hill and taking in the amazing views of the Columbia River Gorge canyon while listening to music come from the main stage. It’s especially spectacular during sunset. The amphitheater has actually won Pollstar’s ‘Best Outdoor Music Venue’ award nine times!

CON: The only thing that sucked about the main stage was having to walk up the gigantic hill afterwards if you were in the pit. A lot of the festival goers would sit at the top of the hill if they planned on seeing acts at the other stages because they didn’t want to waste energy walking up the hill multiple times.

OTHER STAGES:

 PRO:

Bigfoot: Was a big stage with a lot of room for the crowd, had a little cat walk.

Yeti: Very Intimate, multiple artists who performed on this stage hopped down to the barricade. (Arkells, Sam Lachow, Boogie)

El Chupacabra: In a tent, the floor was grassy. During the day they would have comedy acts, and at night they would have DJ’s

CON:

Bigfoot: The stage felt very far away from the crowd and was pretty tall.

Yeti: The stage was really small. If a well known artists played the stage the crowd would spill into the food area.

El Chupacabra: If a well known artist was playing at this stage the tent felt really packed.

THE FOOD & DRINKS

PRO: There were a lot of options to choose from. If you didn’t want to spend much money you could bring snacks into the festival and there were water refilling stations near every stage. The festival’s campground had microwaves.

CON: Like any other festival, the food and drinks were extremely over priced. The water from the refill stations tasted fine but was very cloudy.

SET TIMES:

PRO: Not many performances overlapped with other stages. I personally was able to see all the artists I wanted to see.

CON: I wish the DJ set at the Bigfoot stage started a little bit after the last main stage performance ended, because it takes awhile getting up the hill with a huge crowd of people.
