Billy Joel Takes On Madison Square Garden With A Few Surprises

Madison Square Garden – New York, NY

Being from New York himself, it’s no surprise the Piano Man would sell out MSG without a problem. He also has a residency at the garden as well. Needing no opening act to get this crowd excited for Billy Joel,  he took the stage around 8:30 pm opening the night with Miami 2017.

Instantly the crowd got on their feet and out of their seats the moment Joel took the stage. What was nice about this show is that crowd interaction Joel gave. Throughout the night he gave the crowd a select choice between two songs, which he played whatever song the crowd screamed and cheered the loudest for.

As it’s no secret that Joel has a very wide selection of greatest hits under his belt, he played so many such as The Longest Time, Moving Out and My Life. Not only did he play songs of his own he also played a few covers such as Simon and Garfunkel’s The Boxer and Paul Simons’ Late in the Evening and did I mention he actually brought out Paul Simon to sing both songs with him? Yes, that did happen. Not only did Joel bring out Paul Simon as a guest he also brought out Miley Cyrus to sing New York State of Mind with him! Two incredible surprise guests performed with him and that alone gave off such a positive vibe from the crowd which really made Joel light up!

Nineteen songs and two guests later, Joel ended his set with his very well known hit Piano Man, but just when you think the night was over, Joel came back for an encore consisting of six songs including You May Be Right, where he brought back Cyrus and Simon to sing with him on that one and to name a few other hits he played during the encore include We Didn’t Start The Fire, Uptown Girl and Only The Good Die Young.

Mr Billy Joel has always been a favorite artist of mine and selling out the garden and having a residency proves how incredibly talented this man is! If you get a chance to see him perform in an area near you, do so, it’s so worth it! Great music and great live show!
